What's up Wednesday 08.28.2013

Oh man, it's been such a long time since I last update. Life has gotten super busy. Time for another What's up Wednesday!

What I'm reading:
Currently, I'm reading ONE by LeighAnn Kopans.

It's a lovely read about a girl living in a world with regular people and those with superpowers, and she's caught in the middle with basically half a power.
I'm thoroughly enjoying this book and looking forward to the sequel, TWO.

What I'm writing:

I'm still working on that baby wip. Life and work have kept me from writing as much as I wanted, but I finally hit 30K. Little baby wip is growing up.

What else I've been up to:

Lately, we when have the free time, my husband and I (along with the kids) have been heading to NC as often as possible. We had the chance to hike some of the beautiful mountains there.
Like this:

And this:

What inspires me right now:

When I've had the chance to write, I've been listening to a lot of Dashboard Confessional. Also, pictures like this give the current vibe of my wip.

(It might be at the part where bad things start to happen... if you couldn't tell. Haha.)

So, what are you reading right now? How's your writing going? What inspires you?

What's Up Wednesday 06.26

Time for another What's Up Wednesday!

                                                                What I'm Reading:

Well, I just finished Dare to You and now I have a choice. Should I read: Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins or Crossing the Line by Katie McGarry?

I'm leaning more toward Crossing the Line since it's a novella and I just finished Dare You To. Then, I think, I'll pick up Ann and the French Kiss because I'm dying to read it!

 What I'm writing:

Still working on Baby WIP. My word count last week was pitiful, and I plan to remedy that this week. I WILL get to that 20k. I will.

What else I've been up to:

I joined a critique group for 'fresh eyes' on my dystopian MS, and I have been critiquing the other MSs in the group. Like crazy. Which is why I haven't written much this week, but I enjoy it!

We also had a birthday party for my Little Miss Piggy. She turned 1 and happily consumed mounds of cake.

What inspires me right now:

This week I've been listening to a lot of Pedro the Lion and Bright Eyes in those rare moments I did write. Also, this picture:

So, how about you? What are you reading or writing? What inspires you?

Team Oxford Comma

I need to confess something. I have so much love for the oxford comma. It's true. So, when I stumbled upon this picture in my quest of love for the oxford comma, I knew I had to share it with you all.

Enjoy:

Also, if anyone buys me this shirt, I'll love you forever.

So, are you Team Oxford too? Or do you skip it?

What's up Wednesday?

I've decided to join the group of bloggers doing What's Up Wednesday.

Through Ready.Set.Write edition. Don't know about it? Go look here at Communtinggirl's blog.

Every Wednesday this summer, I'll try to make a blog post updating what's going on with me. So, here's my first What's Up Wednesday:

What I'm reading:
Dare You To by Katie McGarry
Recently, I've really gotten into a lot of YA contemporary and after reading the first in this series (Pushing the Limits), I needed to read the next. Unfortunately, I've been so busy lately that I haven't been reading very much. I need to remedy that. Who needs sleep?

What I'm writing:

Currently, I'm still working on my little baby wip. I'm hoping to get to 20K by next Wednesday. We'll see. I also decided to reread my dystopian MS and did little tweaks while reading over it. I'm joining a CP group to get some 'fresh eyes' on it and am looking forward to that.

What Else I've been Up to:

Not much. Wrangling my kids mainly. I'm also reading my wonderful sister's MS and I love it. She's awesome. Really. Click that link and check her out. And currently at this moment...I'm baking fresh, homemade hamburger buns. I wish you could all smell my house right now. Seriously. I love the smell of fresh bread baking. Yum. I can't wait to eat them tonight.

What Inspires Me Right Now:

Lots of things. I've been listening to a lot of indie/folk music while working on Baby WIP and looking up pictures on Pinterest that give me the vibe of my wip. Pictures like this:

and

And then, specifically, I've been listening to this song (My Body is A Cage by Arcade Fire) a lot while writing.

So, how about you? What're you reading or writing? What have you been up to? And, if you want to join in on the Ready.Set.Write  What's Up Wednesdays, just click on that first link to check it out or look up the Twitter hashtag, #ReadySetWrite :)

Pitmad

So Pitmad was Tuesday.

I happily annoyed my Twitter followers all day by tweeting my pitch. If you haven't heard of Pitmad go look it up. The hashtag is simply #pitmad . I met a lot of new writer friends, cheered on old ones, and saw a bunch of pitches that made me want to read people's MSs. It was a ton of nervous fun!

I ended the day with new friends and a couple favorites (meaning an agent/pub is interested seeing more), so I count it as a successful day for me.

And if you're sad you miss it...

Fear not, there's another #Pitmad in September and I think there's a #Pitchmas in July, so polish those MSs & Pitches and have some fun!

Did any of you participate? What did you think of it?

New WIP Vibe

Recently, I started a shiny new baby wip and I thought I'd post some pictures to kind of share the vibe of it. These are just random photos I found on the interwebs, but I liked the feel of them. :)

Ta-da:

Have any of you ever searched the internet for pictures to inspire your writing?

CP Love

Today I want to gush on critique partners. A good critique partner is GOLD. For a while, I bounced ideas off my twin sister ( check her out here ) and I still annoy her with repeated phone calls and texts, but when she signed with her agent and in the same month found out she was pregnant, her time became precious.

Enter CPseek. I'd seen people on twitter mentioning this site, so I went there in search of a crit partner. It took a couple tries until I found someone I mesh with well and that's so important because you'll be spending a lot of time on each other's MS (and hopefully future projects). I highly recommend checking out CPseek. I found one of my wonderful CPs there.

Now, I leave you with this because CPs are awesome and so it A Very Potter Muscial.

You guys,
I saw this over on Title2Come and it's perfect. This is exactly what my husband sees while I'm writing. Hopefully slightly less Gollum-ish looking though.

And if you haven't checked out Title2Come, do it. Hilarious.

Current Read

So, I thought I'd give this blog thing a try. I have to be honest. I don't know what I'm doing.

But, here's what I'm reading at the moment. I absolutely love Jennifer Armentrout's Covenant series, so I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book!
